austin https://design.org/tags/austin en The Forty Story of Pentagram: A Narrative Portfolio Reel https://design.org/blog/forty-story-pentagram-narrative-portfolio-reel <p>This video cleverly celebrates <a href="http://www.pentagram.com/" target="Pentagram's">Pentagram's</a> 40th anniversary and also functions as a unique—no to mention impressive—portfolio reel. Told as the story of boy born and maturing (rather quickly) over the corse of the <a href="http://design.org/graphic-design" target="design">design</a> consultancy's existence, it shows "how his life has been tracked (and kerned) by forty years of Pentagram design," typography and branding.</p> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="620" height="291" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_02.jpg?1340085283" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-images"> <div class="field-label">Images:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="292" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_03.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="292" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_04.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="293" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_01.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_07.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_05.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_10.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_08.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_06.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_images" width="620" height="430" title="Design, pentagram, 40" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2012/06/18/pentagram_40_11.jpg?1340085368" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-featured"> <div class="field-label">Featured:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Not Featured </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://design.org/blog/forty-story-pentagram-narrative-portfolio-reel" target="_blank">read more</a></p> https://design.org/blog/forty-story-pentagram-narrative-portfolio-reel#comments agency austin berlin brand design graphic identity london newyork sanfrancisco video Tue, 19 Jun 2012 05:51:34 +0000 jessicapatterson 4257 at https://design.org Frank: Hot Dogs, Cold Beer, Tasty Design https://design.org/blog/frank-hot-dogs-cold-beer-tasty-design <p>A little ways back I shared the identity and web design of <a href="http://design.org/blog/austin-beerworks-awesome-web-design" target="Austin Beerworks">Austin Beerworks</a> created by <a href="http://helmsworkshop.com/work-and-play/project/10/" target="Helms Workshop">Helms Workshop</a>. Today, I stumbled upon the design masters behind their identity and branding. Designers Paula Scher and Julia Hoffmann at <a href="http://www.pentagram.com/" target="Pentagram">Pentagram</a>, an independent design house with designers in London, New York, Berlin and Austin, created the logo and case style for the film series. </p> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="620" height="486" alt="" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2011/06/13/pentagram_criterion_2.jpg?1307999664" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-featured"> <div class="field-label">Featured:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Not Featured </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://design.org/blog/criterion-collection-logo-and-branding-pentagram" target="_blank">read more</a></p> https://design.org/blog/criterion-collection-logo-and-branding-pentagram#comments austin berlin brand design graphic identity logo london Movie newyork Mon, 13 Jun 2011 21:18:11 +0000 jessicapatterson 2897 at https://design.org Want Vs. Allow me to explain.</p> <p>A Visual Design student who is signed up for my upcoming Typography course wrote to me and asked what he could read during the summer to get ready for the Fall semester class. It about knocked my serifs right off. Where was he hiding his apathy? How dare he, during the sacred summer months, think about preparing for entering a demanding and increasingly competitive career field by preparing early for a class?</p> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="301" height="450" title="Sketch by Brock Elliott" alt="Sketch by Brock Elliott" src="https://design.org/sites/default/files/blog/2010/06/08/brockelliott.jpg?1276021095" /> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://design.org/blog/want-be-better-design-student" target="_blank">read more</a></p> https://design.org/blog/want-be-better-design-student#comments austin design education productivity school students tips Wed, 09 Jun 2010 16:07:40 +0000 tomhapgood 2191 at https://design.org
