The Italian, industrial design consultancy often works in sports equipment, electronics and modern furnishings. So much so that he has amassed a collection of thousands of samples. After reading Uncle Tungsten by Oliver Sacks, he thought that the London Science Museum's periodic table displayed samples of the elements on a table. But for these stools he turned up the heat and introduced raw fire as a tool. </p> <p>The series, titled ‘Ausgebrannt,’ (i.e. ‘Burnt Out’), embraces the raw form of naturally felled or dead wood. Kaspar takes the local tree remnants, pieces them together, and uses fire sculpting to carve out the legs.
