Design.org Assessment: Creating Focus Statements, Interpreting Results, & More

At Design.org, our number one priority is helping you design a life you love. Everything we offer, from our daily coaching messages to our affirmation packs, is centered around this idea, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve your experience as you work to improve your life.

In that spirit, we’ve recently updated the way the Design.org assessment system works, and we wanted to share some of those changes with you. We believe that this new format is going to bring people just like you the optimal opportunity to discover personal growth and improvement.

New assessment

The Design.org assessment may not be where all the magic happens (you’re in charge of that!) but it is where the magic starts

The new assessment takes just 5 minutes to complete, and it helps you navigate and explore your current state of mind to help you determine where you can start improving.

Choosing focus areas

The new assessment asks you to choose an area of your life you want to improve. This helps guide your thinking and keeps you focused on your path to change.

We’ve narrowed down possible focus areas to help simplify your thinking. You can choose to focus on:

  • Health
  • Wealth
  • Work/Role
  • Spiritual
  • Family
  • Relationships
  • Location
  • Hobbies

As you zero in on one of these focus areas, we’ll ask you to rate your current state in that area, on a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (perfect).

Three focus goals

Once you’ve decided which focus area you want to work on, we help you narrow your focus even further, by asking you what it is you want to receive in that area.

Some of these options include things like:

  • Clarity
  • Fulfillment
  • Freedom
  • Growth
  • Peace
  • Love
  • Safety
  • Connection
  • Trust
  • Understanding

Choosing three things you want to receive helps you to narrow your focus even further, which will help you as you create your focus statements.

Creating focus statements

Focus statements are our latest addition to the assessment, and if you ask us, they’re total game-changers. Why? Because they allow you to create your own statements that help you intentionally state your vision for a different future. You are in charge of your destiny, right from the beginning.

Sounds awesome, right?

Of course, we understand that creating your own focus statements may be something new. But don’t worry, we’re here to help with that, too.

The key with focus statements is to keep things simple. Your focus statement isn’t a set-in-stone plan; it’s a guideline to help you visualize how you will need to think and act as you move toward the end you have in mind.

Here’s an example of how you could complete this focus statement:

By sticking to the big picture, you give yourself flexibility as you move toward your ultimate goal.

Don’t spend too much time completing your focus statement. Don’t overthink it. Chances are, you know what it is you need. Start with that and adjust as necessary. You’re in control here!

Visualization

There’s one more thing the assessment allows you to do that can help you as you progress toward your goals. It’s visualization.

We ask you to think about your focus area, and what it would look like if it was 10/10, absolutely perfect, couldn’t get any better.

Some examples include:

Q: If your focus on family was transformed to a perfect state, 10 out of 10, what would that look like?
A: Our family communicates well, spends quality time together, and works through disagreements. We eat dinner together every night and take a big vacation every year.

Q: If your focus on relationships was transformed to a perfect state, 10 out of 10, what would that look like?
A: My relationship gives me room to grow and breathe without resentment or guilt.

Q: If your focus on wealth was transformed to a perfect state, 10 out of 10, what would that look like?
A: I want to be able to fly to Hawaii on a moment’s notice.

When you visualize, you begin with the end in mind. You give yourself a clear picture of where you want to go, which will allow you to connect the dots back to where you are.

What about the Egg?

Love the Egg framework? We do, too! Don’t worry—it’s not going anywhere. The Design.org assessment will still let you know where you’re currently at in the Egg, so that you can continue progressing toward a more meaningful life.

By evaluating your level of agreement with certain statements (e.g. “When I’m afraid, I hope there’s still a way out.”), the assessment helps gauge your stage in the Egg, which clues us (and you) into the things you truly need in order to progress.

From there, we’ll send you free daily coaching messages that help you design your thinking to create a better life.

Your assessment results

Once you complete your assessment, you’ll receive a simple, easy-to-read document that synthesizes your results, clearly states your focus and vision, and provides you with targeted tips for moving forward. Your results document will look something like this:

These results can help you stay focused on your ultimate goal, visualize success, and get you started on your journey toward meaning and happiness.

The Design.org assessment has always been about helping you know yourself better so that you can move forward. The new assessment takes self-discovery a step further, making it perfectly clear what you intend to focus on.

Your intentions are powerful. With an intention in your mind, you’ll receive more clarity and more direction as you work on designing a life you love.

Let our assessment point you in the right direction, and then start on your own journey toward a happier life and a new you.
