Elips Design's Modern and Kid-Friendly Home

Often what we envision as a modern home includes cold, hard lines, minimal spaces and sparse decor—not a place a family would seemingly thrive. But this home design from London-based architecture agency Elips Design balances modern lines and playful function for the family of inhabitants. This modern home is bright, open and entirely kid friendly.

The house opens out towards the garden with living areas, kitchen and dining areas overlooking the garden, helping to open the space and bring the outside in. The kitchen becomes the heart of the house and connects to the kid-friendly living area. The upper level includes four children’s bedrooms, a small library, and a playful addition—the children's bedrooms have secrets doors to connect them to one another. The staircase design has an integrated slide, and other secret doors reveal an unexpected surprise to create a playful house. The loft provides a separate and peaceful place with a Juliet balcony that opens to the sunset.

The firm also considered external factors in planning the home... "The south/west facade is glazed to allow the natural light to flood inside and is clad in timber to match the external decking. The unusual combination of inside/outside and vertical circulation enables the house to offer the family and its friends an exceptional degree of community, as well as respecting the privacy of the individuals."
