The Exquisite Book: (100) Artist Collaboration

100 artists collaborated to create the Exquisite Book.

Based on the Surrealist exquisite corpse game, each artist continues a portion of the previous artist's page, forming a sort-of continuous horizon line through each chapter. Ten groups of ten artists each contributed one page in the book forming ten chapters, each folded accordion style with five illustrations on each side (see the video below for a visual explanation).

Most of the prints are available for purchase through the Exquisite Book Print Shop. They would definitely make awesome art pieces displayed in groups because of their continuos nature. Or of course you could pick your favorite, and it would look great alone. I remember playing a similar game with words or drawings, where each player folded over most of the sentence or sketch, so the next player had to continue with just a portion of the drawing. That could be a fun exercise for design students. They detailed their previews and process at their website including how they made the 3D letters in the intro (which look completely hand-drawn, but where originally constructed digitally), and it's definitely worth checking out. Also note how the website background coordinated with the pages... web design beauty to me!
