First Photo of a Human

First known example of an image of a human in photography.

First Human Photo

This was taken in Paris on the Boulevard du Temple sometime between April 24 and May 4, 1838. The exposure time was approximately 10 minutes, so the cars did not register on the photo because of their movement.

There was a man getting his shoes shined in the bottom left of the photo and he was standing still long enough to show up on the photo.

This image is a mirror image.

I'm always fascinated when I think about how much technology has advanced in such a short amount of time. Less than 200 years ago the first human photo was taken and now I have thousands of photos stored on my computer.
