Kickstarter's $4.8 Mil Project: Pebble—A Watch Companion for iPhone and Android

Reaching $1 million in 28 hours, Pebble was sure to break some records over at Kickstarter. It seems pertinent to mention that the project's initial goal was $100,000—ten-times less than their first day of funding attracted.

Now, in just one week they've reached $4.8 million in pledges with the number continually climbing upon each page refresh—there's an excellent chance that the project may actually reach $5 mil before the end of the day. What watch could cause such a stir? Pebble uses an iPhone or Android phone as a launch point. The customizable, E-paper watch tethers to the smart phone using apps for functionality.

Pebble connects to your phone using Bluetooth, alerting you with a silent vibration to incoming calls, emails and messages. The Pebble design team "strove to create a minimalist yet fashionable product that seamlessly blends into everyday life."

Starting simply, the owner to change the watchface at will, selecting from available downloadable watchfaces or by designing a custom face using the developer kit. The e-paper / backlight combo guarantees that the clean and simple interface will be visible no matter the conditions.

Diving deeper into function, the apps for Pebble can transform it into a running, golfing and cycling tracker and can display Incoming Caller ID, Email (Gmail or any IMAP email account), Calendar Alerts, Facebook Messages, Tweets, Weather Alerts and initiate a silent vibrating alarm and timer. Not enough for you, super geek? You can customize your data flow using developer tools to generate push notifications, track your transportation, and a plethora of other tasks to satisfy your techy needs.
