The Never-Ending Fruit Bowl: Fruit Bowl '128'

SEMdesign designed this modern fruit bowl to "never look empty."
Design, fruit bowl, industrial design,

Fruit bowl '128,' is handcrafted by gluing together layers of recycled cardboard or plywood. The different levels present a way to play with pieces of fruit and the space within the bowl. By placing one piece of fruit on the "top shelf" of the bowl, an appearance of fullness is created. The images below show the bowl in cardboard and wood. It's neat to see the differences and similarities between the two in construction.

I'm not sure about the "never look empty" idea, but I do like the form of and shapes within the fruit bowl. The constructed bowl is water and dirt repellent and made in Holland.

Up for a challenge? SEMdesign is giving away a free manual with instructions on how to make the fruit bowl yourself. Download the manual here, though it may be helpful to know some Dutch.
