Script and Seal: The Aesthetic of Art Meets the Structure of Design in Posters and Print

The Script and Seal shop is the creative outlet and shop of designers Gavin Potenza & Liz Meyer. Here they showcase some of their personal projects and designs, making them available to fans at affordable prices.

Big Cartel, the host of their shop, interviewed them about their business. Here's an interesting excerpt about symbolism in their designs:

BC: The use of semaphores as visual vocabulary creates sort of a code to decipher, what’s behind that?

S&S: We have a natural inclination towards symbology. Symbols in any form of art always adds a brilliant layer of depth. We like the idea of creating a long-lasting relationship between the viewer and the design, and we do that by including symbology that will hopefully resonate with people. That might be because they have to think about what they are seeing, or maybe because they glance at it and then remember it later, or maybe because they become interested in learning about something they hadn’t already known about, and seek out the answer. We’re all about the puzzles, the longer you keep people guessing, the more fun everything becomes.
