  • I stumbled upon Weekday Carnival, which is the blog component of the RK Design shop, both from Finland-based Riikka Kantinkoski. I love the bright whites and Scandinavian pop of the product and home stylings throughout its pages. Below you'll find a collection of some creative product and home shots that also show off some of the great poster designs of RK Design.

  • As Molinelli Charly points out, relatively few individuals ever get to drive a Ferrari, even once. The Portland-based multidisciplinary creator and graphic designer says "That’s a fact. A worse fact is that some of the Ferraris on the market today are being crashed and destroyed. That’s hard to imagine for us normal people, but it seems that the ex-owners aren’t as impressed as we are."

  • In 2011, Michael Johansson of Pictionary Productions spent 120+ days on the road, visiting numerous countries and a laundry list of destinations that I am quite envious of (Mike. Need a writer, designer, assistant, water girl, gear carrier? Call me.). Since he didn't send any postcards during his adventures, he created this video version showing some highlights from the trips from both personal and professional footage.

  • We appreciate the simple and sleek functionality of the Bike Valet by Sacramento-based Reclamation Art + Furniture. The design frees up space in tight quarters and elevates the bicycle to an artistic focal point instead of a hall traffic hindrance. The handcrafted frames are cut from cold steel, finished and dressed with leather or neoprene pads.

  • I'm not very well-versed in sports specifics or history, but I've enjoyed browsing the Fleer Sticker Project blog. Though the blog's primary goal is cataloging Fleer team stickers included in card packs—namely baseball and football, the collected designs and photos show logo, product and technological evolution; packaging and branding history; and graphic design trends.

  • Character designer, sculptor and illustrator Andrew Shek's blog is full of sketches, drawings and work that slaps a smile on my face. He draws and studies animals—both domestic and wild—as his main subject matter and designs for the Kung Fu Panda television series. Other projects under the Toronto based designer's belt include Penguins of Madagascar, Curious George and freelancing with Disney Studios. See a sampling of his awesome illustrations below.

  • Belgium-based furniture and product designer Kaspar Hamacher "loves wood and his chain saw." But for these stools he turned up the heat and introduced raw fire as a tool.

The series, titled ‘Ausgebrannt,’ (i.e. ‘Burnt Out’), embraces the raw form of naturally felled or dead wood. Kaspar takes the local tree remnants, pieces them together, and uses fire sculpting to carve out the legs. The scorching and use of raw timber produces some beautiful and unique details within the stool and table "templates."
