In true meta fashion, London-based Ashwin Patel was inspired by the essentials of a designer's life to create the A Studio Life print.

A Studio Life consist of a "series of illustrations outlining the typical life of the design studio, from essential tools and must haves, to thoughts, visionaries and revelations." We love the combination of literal illustrations mixed with the objectified interpretations of more abstract ideas.

On the creation of A Studio Life, Ashwin says:

What were some major points of inspiration for the A Studio Life print?
The people I've been lucky to work with and the studios I've had the privilege of being in—a studio life is certainly something to cherish. I wanted to capture it all and share it in self-referential humour. It's mainly for fun and for all the studios out there to relate with, nod at and hopefully bring out some smiles.

What, for you, is the biggest challenge of living a studio life? The biggest perk?
Time. There's never enough of it. And the perk—working in a creative environment.

What type of design process took form with this project? Was it fairly linear and planned or rather an evolving, fluid project?
The project started a year ago and certainly evolved over time. The style of pictograms was defined early on, and I always had the idea of them being very crafted and traditional but with a quirkiness and holding subtle details. The thoughts on what to illustrate followed; some came quickly, others took a while to think of... I'm sure there are a few in there that people may disagree with, and I'm sure there are more to add. Perhaps there's a second installment in the future.
