Tessellations and Processes: Paper Works by Matthew Shlian
Matthew Shlian is a paper engineer who works at the intersection of art and engineering. He collaborates with scientists—creating nano-origami, mocks up packaging for billion-dollar blue-chips, and creates these structured and fragile works of paper art...

Matthew collaborates with Ghostly International to create artworks made available to the public. Thus far he has created The Process Series, "a collection rooted in basic geometry and inspired by electronic music," and The Tessellation Series, which "evokes the joy of improvisation," not something normally associated with engineering and science.

He writes: "In my studio I am a collaborator, explorer and inventor. I begin with a system of folding and at a particular moment the material takes over. Guided by wonder, my work is made because I cannot visualize its final realization; in this way I come to understanding through curiosity."
