Toy Guardian: Concept Design and IDEA Award Winner

Meet the Toy Guardian: the mobile toy box meets riding toy meets fantastical creature. Design, industrial, toy, kid, toy guardian Design, industrial, toy, kid, toy guardian Design, industrial, toy, kid, toy guardian Design, industrial, toy, kid, toy guardian

The Toy Guardian concept design is aimed to solve a typical family problem: messy toys. Designer Tzung-Yu Lu hoped to create an object that would give parents a way to encourage kids to clean up through story. Instead of forcing children to pick up or the parents themselves cleaning up the mess, the Toy Guardian becomes a fun way for kids to enjoy cleaning up. See the images and video below. Lu's favorite part of the design is the simplified appearance of the toy box. When kids see the final design, they all have different definitions for it. "Some say it's rabbit, some say it's a doggy, a mouse, a piggy, a dragon.... Their imaginations are truly amazing! Sometimes we don't have to explain everything or restrict the definitions, the kids have their own way of understanding." Design, industrial, toy, kid, toy guardian

The design concept has been awarded both IDEA Bronze and reddot award. Maybe we'll see it in production in the future. Would you buy one? The mumbles of criticism I found suggested making it less monster-like because it might scare kids. Do you think it would be too scary? I don't think it would have frightened me as a child, so it could just depend on the child's experiences and what they've been taught to be afraid of.
