Jez Burrows of Sing Statistics created the cover design and interior layouts of We are the Friction, an anthology of collaborative illustration and short fiction. I love the bold and text-heavy cover design and how it leads into the content. The simple, clean interior rightly passes the focus onto the words and illustrations.

They asked 12 pairs of illustrators and authors to compose a new work inspired by the work of their partner - "stories from illustrations and illustrations from stories." The pairs included Ray Fenwick vs. Spencer Krug, Pietari Posti vs. Ryan Boudinot, Dan Kennedy vs. Frank Chimero, and Chris Eaton vs. Nigel Peake. Illustrations shown above by Verity Keniger and Ray Fenwick.

Sing Statistics also edited and published the anthology (an independent publishing concern run with Lizzy Stewart). They launched We Are The Friction in July 2009 at Analogue Books, Edinburgh, as a limited and numbered run of 1,000 with four-color litho-printed text and a perfect-bound two-color screen printed cover (which has since sold out).
