Worldwide Friendships: Mapping Facebook Connections

We know that Facebook is a useful tool for connecting with friends around the world. Paul Butler decided to create a visual map of Facebook friends and see what the connections looked like.

Design

The results were pretty amazing. Paul took a sampling of 10 million pairs of Facebook friends and created a formula for mapping their friendships. The above map is created by charting the location of the Facebook friends. As you can see, it shows a pretty clear world wide map.
