Unbeknownst to me and likely to the majority of the population, in 2002 Los Angeles prohibited the creation of mural work (on public or private buildings). The Los Angeles Freewalls project hopes to change that.

  • The Camera Genius app from CodeGoo adds function to the already excellent iPhone camera. With shooting, editing and sharing features, the app allows a full photo experience within a single app, as opposed to the native camera's very minimal sharing and editing capabilities. The Camera genius interface was designed by Artua, an agency specializing in web and interface design.

  • How many times have you propped up your phone using a random object only to wish you'd had a real kickstand? If you're anything like me, it's happened on multiple occasions (let's be honest—youtube) and mostly with unsuccessful results. I also know that it's likely that I might (would) break a flimsy plastic kickstand protruding from my phone and/or lose an extra piece.

  • Like most Design.org readers, Sebastiaan de With is "a lover of well-designed things." The self-proclaimed "hard to deal with" designer has a difficult time stomaching or appeasing mediocrity or crumminess. But this proclivity toward critical-perfection drives him to be the change he wants to see in the world. He works to make "electronics better and easier to use through product, visual and user interface design."

  • With the advent of smartphones, personal gps and mass social-media integration, life-tracking habits and devices are becoming more and more common, if not the norm. Much like the Nike Fuelband or the Jawbone UP, the wrist-worn Basis is a device that tracks wellness through heart rate and activity level.

  • Reaching $1 million in 28 hours, Pebble was sure to break some records over at Kickstarter. It seems pertinent to mention that the project's initial goal was $100,000—ten-times less than their first day of funding attracted.

  • Happily, Nixon finally acquired their brand domain name, and such an event deserves celebration and a polished redesign. Their last site was beautiful, but the new interface takes the best of the old and adds friendlier function. The new minimalist site design keeps the focus on the product while highlighting lifestyle. The front page has become a friendly lookbook and the interior product and category pages make browsing to buy a breeze while capturing the story and details behind each product.

  • What could better demonstrate the joy brought forth by intuitive user interface design than a cross-species interaction? It's exciting and fun for us as humans to see discovery and reaction in others, especially Peter the Elephant and his Samsung Galaxy Note. He's either a very intelligent elephant or that's a super-successful user experience—I'm guessing there's a bit of both in the mix.

  • As we all know, many sites we interact with on the internet could use facelifts. Sometimes, when something works it can be difficult to see how much the user experience could improve. Vladimir Kudinov is on a mission to make the internet a better place. The Russian designer says "We can make the Internet better, I believe in it... We can show the world community and the way in terms of design and usability, and together we will change the usual apathy and make our lives better."
