On April 21st, a new mural was unveiled at "LA Freewalls Inside" at LALA Gallery. Why is this noteworthy? Unbeknownst to me and likely to the majority of the population, in 2002 Los Angeles prohibited the creation of mural work (on public or private buildings). The Los Angeles Freewalls project hopes to change that.
Evol, a Berlin-based street artist, transforms city elements into these smaller cities and miniature buildings using a series of stencils with incredible detail. These sprayed and printed electrical box and street object makeovers are so detailed, it amazes me that they weren't tediously hand-painted. Some of them, especially those standing on their own, are so convincing you may have to look twice.
